The SRES® designation is one that I'm especially proud of. As a Seniors Real Estate Specialist I am trained to not only provide resources, but also to address the concerns that are important to seniors. When a senior is thinking of selling their home they are often faced with even more complex challenges than a younger person. A move might be the result of other life changes such as the loss of a spouse or health issues. It is important to listen and to be sensitive to their concerns. Often seniors are filled with apprehension and may fear:
Losing control
Losing power or status
Losing savings or equity
Leaving familiar surroundings
Losing their pets or personal treasures
Developing a relationship with senior clients takes time and cannot be rushed, trust is something that must be earned. Often a move is something that is eased into over a period of time and may require many more steps before a home goes on the market. I have an extensive database of resources including trust attorneys, estate liquidators, painters, handy men, organizers and house cleaners to help make the transition as stress free as possible.
Working with the elderly requires stringent ethics, deep compassion and tremendous patience. Open communication with the family is essential to finding the best solution for each individual.
